Learning together

Our History

Agincourt Co-Operative Nursery School Inc. has been in existence for over fifty years in the Agincourt community. We are a well-established, well-equipped school providing quality child care to pre-school children in our community.

Our Philosophy

We believe children learn through play, and thrive when offered a balance of structured and non-structured activities that directly reflect their needs and interests. Children need to be surrounded by warmth, security, acceptance and encouragement. We strive to help children develop an interest in books, music, art and nature. We respect that each child develops at his/her own pace and has a unique personality, learning process and cultural background.

Co-Operative

A co-operative Nursery School is operated by the parents of the children attending. We are a non-profit organization with fees set to cover only the expenses (rent, salaries, supplies, etc....) for that year. In order to keep these fees as low as possible, and still maintain a high standard, it is necessary for the parents to assist the staff. Parents participate in the program twice per month or can serve on the executive committee. A limited number of non-participating spaces are available at an extra cost.

Our Program

Our school is licensed by the Ministry of Community, Family and Children's Services to provide care for preschool children. We operate from September to June, Monday to Thursday, 9:00 am - 12:00 noon and are closed the regular school holidays. Your child should be 2 1/2 to 5 years old and toilet trained. When there is sufficient enrolment, an afternoon program is available. The children are provided a nutritious snack and drink each day. A daily routine is followed to provide consistency and continuity for the children.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum supports the whole child. Our goal is to enhance the child's learning and growth in all developmental areas: cognitive, social, emotional and physical. The curriculum follows themes throughout the year. The themes often reflect what is happening in the outside world around them such as, Chinese New Year, the four seasons, Holidays and the Olympics, etc... The themes are supported and demonstrated in all learning areas of the classroom such as, creative art, science, dramatic play, learning circles, puzzles, water/sand, play dough, block play and the books available to the children. We also have daily use of the school's gym equipped with climbing equipment, a slide, tricycles, cars, scooters, balls and hula-hoops. We enjoy celebrating events from many different cultures and often involve parents or grandparents in the program. Some of our family involvement events have included a Holiday Potluck Lunch, a trip to the farm and our summer fun picnic at Thompson Park.

Our Staff

Our teachers are well trained in Early Childhood Education; have earned a valid ECE Diploma/Degree or equivalency from a recognized college/university; and are registered members in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators. Teachers are encouraged to attend workshops through various community organizations in order to keep up to date on current trends and studies in the field.
